Southeast Asia has implemented what the WHO calls a ‘monumental’ shift in polio vaccination that the international agency says brings the region nearer to eradicating the potentially crippling disease once and for all. Even in Pakistan, despite deadly violence targeting immunization workers, the polio case numbers are looking much better but cross-border transmission remains a threat.
