The Senate on Feb. 22 voted 80-6 to move forward with considering Robert Califf as the next commissioner of the FDA – defeating two holds placed on his nomination by Sens. Edward Markey (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and stifling any chance of a filibuster, which Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) had threatened to pursue.
